The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has assured prospective candidates that the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration will be significantly easier and less stressful than the 2026 exercise.
Speaking at the Board’s inaugural meeting on August 3, 2026, Prof. Aina disclosed that JAMB is working on a new pre-registration mobile platform that will allow candidates to complete important parts of the registration process from the comfort of their homes.
NEW PRE-REGISTRATION PLATFORM
According to the Registrar, the proposed platform is expected to provide:
Faster registration and sign-up processes.
Offline data collection.
Instant validation of candidates’ information.
Automated document scanning and verification.
Reduced errors and delays during registration.
A more convenient registration experience for candidates.
The system is being designed to address some of the challenges candidates experienced during the 2026 UTME registration exercise.
REGISTRATION TIME TO BE REDUCED
Prof. Aina further explained that the improved system is expected to significantly reduce the amount of time candidates spend during registration.
The registration process, which may currently take around 20 minutes, could be reduced to approximately two or three minutes when the new system is fully implemented.
JAMB PROMISES BETTER SERVICES
The new Registrar assured Nigerians that JAMB will continue to use technology to improve its services, strengthen communication and customer support, protect candidates’ information, and make its processes more efficient and transparent.
He also emphasized the need to modernize the Board's operations and build systems that can better serve candidates.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR 2027 UTME CANDIDATES
If successfully implemented, the new system could make the 2027 UTME registration exercise faster, simpler, and more convenient, particularly by allowing candidates to complete some registration procedures before visiting an accredited center.
Candidates are advised to rely on official JAMB announcements for the actual commencement date, registration guidelines, and other requirements for the 2027 UTME.
